Frequently Asked Questions

Where do the Refillables come from?

SESI is located 50 miles near to Oxford by a long going, family run business with sound work ethics. The formulas are mild, harmless, vegan and cruelty free. They go to great lengths to ensure our products whilst eco-friendly, are also affordable and easy to refill.

Fragrances are sourced locally. They opted out from exotic essential oils which would need to be imported from far out.. so they make sure to reduce the carbon footprint where possible. As for Cole & Co, they are a family run business in Wales. They use a lot of organic components in their hand-made products.

Are the detergents environmentally friendly?

Yes.

The detergents have do NOT contain any of the following:

Parabens, Chlorine Bleaches, Optical Brightener, Thiazolinones, Sulphites, Methylisothiazolinone (CMIT), Gluten, Alcohol, SLS, ALS, ALES and Phosphates

Can I refill in any container I want?

Taking into account Health and Safety UK regulation, we will not refill our detergents in food or drink bottles.

There is a risk that children and people who don’t read English could reach out for the bottle thinking it is a drink. And even if you read English, accidents can happen.

Detergent bottles typically have a very identifiable shape that is on purpose different from drink bottles. We recommend:

- squeezy bottles (washing up liquid, rinse aid...)

- spray bottles

- pump bottles for hand soap, etc

- shampoo and shower bottles,

- laundry and conditioner bottles

...or any other that you find convenient and can't be mistaken for a drink/food container!

Your reusable bottles must be clean and ideally dried before refilling as some product get activated in contact with water and may start foaming up and you don't get as much for your money!

What about labelling?

Do not strip off the label of your used bottle, where the quantity of your container is because this is what we use "at the till"! But to save up time at the stall, please remove the label that does NOT say the quantity.

We will provide with a sticker so you know what's in your container. This again is in line with Health and Safety UK, so that if there were any accidental ingestion and you had to go to A&E, you can bring the bottle with you so that A&E knows what to treat you for.

A bit dramatic, but let's comply with the regulation!

What happens to the large drums from the Refill Station?

Sesi reuses the 5L and 20L containers. They take them back every time orders are delivered at Maya’s Refillables. The containers are cleaned and put back in circulation.

The circular economy defines the way SESI operates with a proactive approach to reuse and reduce resources consumption. This makes the operation truly zero waste from the manufacture to the consumer!
